edit Description

Excerpted from the website:

Mary Louise Womer, an artist originally from Kansas City, set up the first 57th Street Art Fair in 1948 as a way for artists in the community to interact and get to know one another’s work. Womer’s silversmithing studio was a popular hangout for neighborhood students and artists who would come to chat and have tea. Her studio eventually became The Little Gallery, in which artists could hold exhibits. Since she was so involved with the local artist community Womer decided it was time to hold an event that could showcase everyone’s work. Because The Little Gallery was far too small to accomodate such an event, she decided to hold it outdoors.
