- EDP System Services, Inc., was founded in 1981 to develop business software. It produced its first bar code software in 1984, and at the same time began its long association with Intermec. The first CheckMate product, Document Tracking, came out in 1987. The DOS CheckMate programs were written in Clipper, a compiled dBASE dialect. In 1996, Document Tracking was the first member of the CheckMate family to be rewritten for Windows. The modern Windows CheckMate programs are written in Delphi, Borland's powerful Windows Pascal system. CheckMate's hardware options were expanded in 1998 with the addition of Opticon portables, in 2000 with Symbol Palm OS portables, and in 2003 with wireless data collection. In 2004, the first web-based CheckMate program became available. CheckMate now has portable bar code reader applications running on Palm OS, WinCE and WinMobile devices. As of 2007, we have also added Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) to our Checkout Applications to synchronize data between two or more CheckMate installations.
