- Acell Foam was invented in the 1980's and was first used in the construction of composite duct work at Heathrow airport. The completed brief delivered a high level of fire resistance that would not spread flame across its’ surface, or emit toxic fumes or dense black smoke in the event of a fire. The first and to date only volume production plant for the manufacture of Mineral Filled Phenolic Foam was built in Milan during the mid-1980's in association with BP Chemicals. BP Chemicals returned to their core businesses in the early 1990’s, their interest in Acell was purchased and the current Acell Group formed.
