- In January 1994, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) embarked on an ambitious program to organize federal, state, regional, and local Bay Area governmental agencies in an information network on the Internet. ABAG established a network called "access to bay area governments Online" ( abagOnline ) for this purpose.
- The members/information providers of abagOnline are primarily government agencies, including local city and county offices; special districts such as schools, water supply and sewerage utilities, and transportation agencies; state agencies such as the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Office of Emergency Services, and Employment Development Department; and federal agencies such as Department of Labor, U.S.
