Seller of Confidential Phone Records
This site (among other things) site sold private, confidential phone records that had been obtained by fraud (e.g., impersonating phone company customers). The FTC sued the site owner for unfair trade practices; won the suit, see Order granting motion for summary judgment (Sept. 28, 2007); and obtained an injunction permanently:
- banning the site owners from selling customer phone records or information obtained from those records or mpersonating people in order to obtain their personal information;
- requiring the site owners to notify people that the site owners had sold their phone records;
- fining the site owners almost $200,000;
- ordering compnay owner Jay Patel (for three years) to notify the FTC of changes in address, employment, or alias.
