- Advanced Composite Materials, LLC (ACM) began as Silag Incorporated in 1976 through a joint venture between Exxon Enterprises and Hulco, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Silag moved to Greer, South Carolina in 1979 and was reorganized into the Materials Division of Exxon Enterprises in 1981. The company was purchased by Atlantic Richfield in 1982 and was the Advanced Materials Operation in the ARCO Metals and ARCO Chemical companies until 1986. Following ARCO divestiture, the company became Advanced Composite Materials Corporation in December, 1986 and was subsequently purchased by Tateho Chemical Industries Company, Ltd. in 1987. ACM became a standalone corporation following management buyout in 2006. ACM's Greer location is part of the greater Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area in upstate South Carolina.
