Title

ACN: Adventist Communication Network

Description

In 1993, Glenn Aufderhar, president of the Media Center, and other ministry leaders were concerned that the church needed to discover new ways to take the gospel to all the world in a much faster and effective way. A "think tank" was set up to discuss new and innovative ideas. Out of that meeting grew the concept of using satellite to uplink an evangelistic series to many parts of the world, from one single location. The idea and plans grew until Mark Finley was asked to hold meetings which would ultimately be received all over the US, Canada, and the Inter-American Division including a few nearby islands off the coast of the United States. The series was translated into Spanish and became known as NET ‘95.

In order to prepare for this new approach to evangelism, equipment had to be designed and churches had to be persuaded to participate and to become equipped to receive the series. As a result, ACN was organized and was the by-product of an evangelistic dream.

T N Mohan was the first director of ACN. He is a native of India with degrees in film-making and production and had been the producer for Pat Robertson's 700 Club. He led the network through its first year. In June of 1993, a meeting of conference presidents was called to sell the idea of using satellite in local churches.
