The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton IA - Long Term Care - Skilled Nursing Care for Dementia

Description

About Us

THE ALVERNO Health Care Facility was the first organization in Clinton, Iowa, dedicated to caring for the community's elderly population. Sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis, the facility has a long tradition of providing care and support to those who are no longer able to care for themselves. Of the 135 beds at The Alverno, 101 serve as private rooms. The numerous awards received by The Alverno speak for the quality of care provided and the skill level and dedication of our staff.

History

The Sisters of Saint Francis opened the original facility, Mount Alverno, in 1914. The facility was named after Saint Francis' mountain retreat of La Verna near Assisi. At the time, it was the only retirement/nursing facility in Clinton County. By the late 1960s, the Sisters decided to build a new facility. The new building (still in use today) was built at 849 13th Avenue North in Clinton. When the new building opened on January 21, 1971, the name was changed to The Alverno Health Care Facility and it was licensed for 125 residents. Over the years, the occupancy rate has steadily increased. With the change in health care needs within the community, The Alverno shifted its emphasis from a retirement/nursing home to providing complex nursing care for the sub-acutely and chronically ill elderly.

Today, The Alverno continues to care for the elderly in the Clinton area and is licensed for 135 residents. The award-winning organization operates in support of the mission established many years ago - to provide professional care for the aging and support for their families in a community which is respectful, compassionate, life giving, Franciscan and Gospel centered.
