Title edit
Welcome to the Alaska SeaLife Center
Description edit
A very big baby boy has made his way to the Alaska SeaLife Center. The Center’s first elephant seal of the millennium was brought to Seward from the mouth of the Kenai River on Monday around 11:30 p.m.
Nutmeg came in with a high white blood cell count, a condition that potentially indicates infection, sickness, or disease, says Tim Lebling, stranding coordinator at the Alaska SeaLife Center. There were also reports that Nutmeg may have been vomiting blood.
“While we are watching him closely, it is probably just that Nutmeg is undergoing a molt,” explains Lebling. “Still, with a high white blood cell count, we think it is important to have him on antibiotics and observe him closely.”
