- This business originally started out as “The Trading Post” in 1949. Truly, this business was built during a great time of expansion in Alaska. Currently, the building is 88 years old and is in the historic downtown waterfront of Ketchikan, Alaska. In 1993 a local family purchased the business and re-established the organization as “J&M Jewelry”. In early 2003 Alaska Trading Company was born. Harvey and Rhonda Smith took over the operation and renamed the store to Alaska Trading Company.
