About me
I became involved with the Alexander Technique in 1997. At the time, I had a successful career in publishing, but had begun to have problems with repetitive strain injury (RSI). I had tried anti-inflammatory drugs, massage and physiotherapy, but these provided only temporary relief. I started Alexander lessons at the point when I was told I would have to take six months off work, and was wondering if I did so, whether I would be able to get another job!
Taking Alexander lessons enabled me to continue working; as time went on, I was able, once again, to type without pain and to use a keyboard for several hours a day. More importantly, though, my Alexander lessons (and my subsequent training as an
teacher) made me realise how much stress and tension had been contributing to a range of minor ailments that I had accepted merely as part of growing older. These included a stiff neck and shoulders, poor posture and middle-ear problems. As my involvement with the Technique continued, my self-esteem and confidence also improved and the world began to seem a much friendlier place.
