- What made this very right-brained flute player from Denver, Colorado, decide to start a publishing company? I suppose it all began when I was in High School. In 1966, at Cheyenne Central High School in Wyoming, there were 16 flute players in the band. Our band director, Sam Blumenthal, hardly knew what to do with all of us, so he sent us off to play ensembles. There really wasn't a lot of ensemble music, so we started doing our own arrangements.
