The ALS Association Northern New England Chapter
Description edit
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease, first described in 1869 by the noted French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. There are know known causes, cures, or effective treatments. Most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time.
The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. OUR MISSION is to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting-edge research, and to empower people with Lou Gehrig’s disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
The ALS Association Northern New England Chapter serves patients and their families in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. We provide services such as our equipment loan program and consultations on health related matters including government programs and basic everyday living.
