ALZwell Caregiver Support | Alzheimer's Disease - Dementia - Caregiving

Description

The following was my story, but things have changed around here. My mother-in-law is now in a convalescent, placed there by her physician after numerous trips to the emergency room and hospital stays for severe infections.

She is now settled in and doing OK, better than OK, she is happy, and we see this on all of our visits now. Of course it wasn't that way in the beginning... I will soon being adding a section on this side of caring.

My name is Susan and I am a full time caregiver. My mother-in-law has been "visiting" for 3 years now. She is an Alzheimer's patient and an insulin dependent Diabetic. She can only kind-of communicate even though she uses inappropriate words, leaves pregnant pauses, forgets what she's saying, isn't saying anything new and has trouble getting any point across. She can barely walk with a walker now,she doesn't know where her feet are, and spends a lot of time in the wheelchair now. She is incontinent, has trouble swallowing, disturbed sleep rhythms, hallucinations, and extreme paranoia as well as many more. She is a handful, and she will only keep going down hill. There's a long way to go and I'm panicking. This page is my answer to how I'm going to continue to cope.
