Amber Lotus Publishing was founded in 1988 by students of a Tibetan Lama living in exile in Berkeley California. The original purpose was to raise funds to help preserve Tibetan culture and religion. A major portion of Amber Lotus funds were used to collect, preserve, re-print and distribute for free, Tibetan Buddhist sacred texts that were in danger of being lost. Amber Lotus was started because someone thought something should be done.
