ASHA is the official American Sulphur Horse Association. ASHA was formed in 2003 in efforts to preserve, promote and protect this rare and beautiful Spanish / Iberian horse. It is the goal of the ASHA to keep the Sulphur Horse gene pool as pure as possible. ASHA is working to help preserve this very rare and unique breed of Spanish horse. Iberian Through Heritage, Pure In Heart, Spanish American Horse.

When the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy accepted ASHA's application for membership, ALBC sent this to us about the Sulphur Springs Mustang: "This is one population that should be kept free of introductions from other herd management areas, as it is Spanish in type and there fore more unique than horses of most other BLM management areas." Genetic testing by Dr.Cothran of the University of Kentucky has revealed that, as Dr. Cothran stated: "They (the Sulphur horses) definitely have Spanish ancestry and are primarily derived from Spanish Horses". Additional testing by Biopsytec Analytik has verified Drs. Sponenberg’s and Cothran's evaluations.”
