- My story: Since I was a child, I have always had a desire to help people. As a young adult, I began working with at risk children through the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department. I found that I enjoyed working with this population and seeing the things they could accomplish. I went to college planning to become a teacher. I quickly realized that I enjoyed helping kids with their problems and listening to their concerns much more than I enjoyed teaching. Consequently, I pursued a career in counseling.
