ANZLIC is developing nationally-agreed (in both Australia and New Zealand) policies and guidelines aimed at achieving "best practice" in spatial data management. Within Australia, the major vehicle for improving access to data is the Australian Spatial Data Infrastructure (ASDI).
ANZLIC advocates the use of common standards, ensuring that data is more easily available to decision makers and increasing the range of spatial information products and services available to government, business and the community. Within government, ANZLIC is creating a strong linkage between policy decisions and the information needed to implement them.
More detail about ANZLIC activities is included in the ANZLIC Strategic Plan 2005–2010 and the 2006 Milestones. Annual reports and past work programs are also available. ANZLIC has existed in various forms since 1986 and has a long history in assisting the growth of a spatial information industry in Australia and New Zealand. The industry achieved a major milestone in September 2001 with the release of the Spatial Information Industry Action Agenda Positioning for Growth (the Action Agenda).
