- The Association was established in 1958 by a group of concerned South African members of General Aviation community to represent General Aviation and its participants in matters concerning aviation. The worldwide membership of AOPA affiliates now exceeds 400 000, making AOPA the most effective aviation association on the globe.
- Our main task, now as it was at our founding, is to represent the interests of General Aviation with the authorities. Other interest groups in aviation, including the airlines, strongly lobby to further their interests.
