Appliances.Com was the first website in the world to sell brand name electronics and appliances with the help and endorsement from major consumer products companies. In early 1995 Richard Kraft, Panasonic's President for North and South America gave Larry Zupancic the "go ahead" to actively sell Matsushita Electric Industries' products on the Internet. Appliances.Com had a listing on the MEI.co.jp corporate home page in Osaka Japan and that link signalled to the world that a new industry was being born. What followed was the creation of an ecommerce gold rush mentality that swept the world. In short order all major consumer products companies scrambled to understand and exploit the commercial opportunities of the World Wide Web.
Appliances.Com helped to bring order to a no rules "Wild West" attitude that was dominating early ecommerce. Larry Zupancic had a basic belief that ecommerce could offer the consumer the most objectively presented and enlightened shopping experience anywhere. As part of that effort there was a focus on providing more information to the consumers than had ever before been offered in any retail environment. Concepts and features such as; high resolution multi view photography, stuctured organized bullet point presentations of features and measurements, presentations of manufacturer's factory warranties and operating manuals, early use of streaming video presentations, CAD drawings to assist in the incorporation of products into design drawings, and accurate comprehensive statements related to policies and privacy, were just some of the ideas that were pioneered at Appliances.Com. These industry leading efforts helped to competetively guide the industry to a higher ethical level than was available in the brick and mortar retail world.
In the 2004 - 2005 time frame the Appliances.Com name was sold and is now being used to offer guidance to consumers helping them to find appliances related resources on the Internet.
