- In all probability it was Aristotle, more so than any other philosopher, who determined much of Western thought as we know it today. His work included that in philosophy, and in science. He covered subjects as diverse as physics and political theory. He invented the formal study of logic and pioneered the study of zoology. Aristotle’s importance as both a scientist and as a philosopher is phenomenal. Although much of his scientific work has now been replaced with what is modern and more exact, his philosophical contributions are those that are still being discussed and debated today.
