- 5 Battalion REME was only formed in April 1999 yet has already experienced an operational tour in the Balkans. The Battalion is a result of a reorganisation of REME support arising from the Strategic Defence Review and is now one of seven REME Battalions supporting the Army.
- The Battalion is intended to become a full size unit but this will not be fully realised until our element of the SDR infrastructure pogramme is complete in 2006. Until then, the Battalion will rely on additional support from other Battalions for deployments on operations or exercises.
