March 18 Articles to write

edit Description

Create good pages for articles that are needed because they are {{HighTraffic}} pages or better pages are needed by other AboutUs teams for a variety of reasons, include ad revenue, VCs and more. Pages are improved by making sure the pages have:

  • Updated address information
  • Cleaned up and accurate categorization
  • Expanded descriptions
  • Correct logo

edit Why?

{{HighTraffic}} pages are a list of pages that are frequently visited, representing about 180,000 people viewing this pages per month. By building good content on the most visited pages we are adding value to the site & giving good examples to visitors of these pages. This task helps support efforts by the Community Team who are identifying and tagging the various {{Articles To Write}} pages.

Additionally, other articles might be needed on a one-off situation for advertising sales, VC clients or other reasons. This task will attempt to address both needs by creating one list for all articles to work on during a iteration.

edit Done When

This is a recurring task. The proposal is that while this is in some ways a low priority task in compared to many other Content Tasks (such as ones supporting paying customers), we should spend sometime daily (about an hour) working on these pages as having good example pages for these pages will improve AboutUs in less tangible but important ways.

edit Steps to get to DoneDone

  1. See the list above
  2. Choose a page (opening it into a new tab allows you to keep this list page open for reference)
  3. Beef up the page. Here are the steps:
    1. Confirm Address
    2. Clean up categories
    3. Expand description
    4. Generally do as much to make the page look fabulous with the least effort.
    5. If the page has a {{HighTraffic}} template, change it to {{HighTrafficNice}}.

edit Discussion

  • Is the idea here to make an article as good as a PortlandTech article? Or less good, but faster? Curious, TedErnst (talk) 00:12, 22 February 2008 (PST)
    • Today, the answer is about the same. The idea is to pilot this out and see what comes. If we find we're not getting enough done in a few weeks of doing these, then we can reassess the amount of work being put into these. -- TakKendrick | talk Comment_green.gif 17:08, 22 February 2008 (PST)
  • This task changed from HighTraffic to reflect other articles needed as well as to provide a more current list of pages to work on after talking to TedErnst about this the other day. If you have questions, please let me know. -- TakKendrick | talk Comment_green.gif 16:32, 3 March 2008 (PST)
  • Is it possible to flag the pages that are no longer websites or are parking lots with {{NoWebsite}} or {{ParkingLot}}? I think this would be helpful information for people visiting these high traffic pages and may help to eliminate some confusion... Kristina .talk. .chat. 21:25, 24 March 2008 (PDT)
