Basic to Humanistic Astrology is that the horoscope shows potential. The ultimate goal after many incarnations may well be to express, within the "limits" of earthly existence, the unlimited divine potential of the soul. That many lives will bring confusion and distortion of this highest potential is only logical. It also means that there are many levels and ways to express one and the same astrological signature. In CHTA's viewpoint it is not important what is, but what could be. And to follow our own unique path and not the path of another. Otherwise you would have been born with the chart of another. But who tells us what our own individual path is? Most people will talk about THEIR ways, THEIR solutions, and not yours. It is quite a tower of Bable here on this planet with all the longings of all those people with all those various pasts to find your own way. Fortunately we also share a lot in common, and thus we recognize ourselves in one another. Astrology will never tell you anything new, if it does its job correctly. But you may get words, ideas and clarity about things you knew already on the inside. Maybe all it was, was that it was not on the surface yet. Astrology will in other words confirm your own nature, it will strengthen you to follow your path, in harmony with all those other unique roads that people may walk. Practicing astrology this way is different. It elevates and strengthens. It is quite another matter than knowing whether you are such and such a person, (because, after all, that changes with the minute, depending on the roles we play). Of course astrology will depict how we play those different roles, the roles we play as a parent, as a child, as a friend, or employee/employer, but this is not the emphasis in the astrology of CHTA.
That sort of explains the H in CHTA (Humanistic). The T of CHTA means 'transpersonal'. I use the word transpersonal (of course) in the way Dane Rudhyar used it originally: by understanding that we are instruments, for better or worse, THROUGH which (TRANS) the impersonal, or superpersonal, can manifest. I suspect that the first square made by Neptune in transit to its own position (in as far as you know what this means) is the moment in time where this transformation POTENTIALLY takes place. Before that time we have our own longings, and want to actualize ourselves as a personality, but then, at age 42 or so, when Neptune squares Neptune, everything becomes empty, and we are presented with the challenge (and the potential possibility) to be lived and moved by Spirit rather than actualizing our selves.Not me but God.
CHTA provides an astrology on this basis. This basis is spiritual, and ultimately aims at selfrealization, but at the same time, CHTA's methods are extremely concrete, no nonsense, and clear to quickly and accurately penetrate the workings of a chart in such a way as to be really helpful to both yourself and others that you may read charts for.
