Eduserv Athens Welcome
Description
Eduserv Athens, a service of Eduserv Technologies Limited, was designed and developed in 1994. The service has been in active use since 1996 in the UK higher education community, providing access to many centrally-funded web-based services. Athens is the de-facto standard in UK higher education, further education and research councils for access management and was awarded a JISC contract in August 2000, for the provision of authentication services to these communities. This contract has now been extended to 2006.
Athens has also been adopted by the National Health Service Information Authority to control access to the National electronic Library for Health (NeLH). Athens now protects many of the services provided under this umbrella, and is steadily gaining ground within Health Authorities.
