American Tract Society :: 180 Years of Changing Lives
edit Description
The American Tract Society was instituted in 1825 and traces its lineage back through the New York Tract Society (1812) and the New England Tract Society (1814) to the Religious Tract Society of London, begun in 1799.
The ATS library has been named to honor Dr. Frank E. Gaebelein for his many years of dedicated service as a member of the Society's Board from 1938 until his death in 1983. For many of those years he headed the Society's publication committee.
Dr. Gaebelein was the first headmaster of Stony Brook on Long Island, New York, where he served for 41 years and set a standard for excellence in education that is widely recognized. He wrote 14 books and was an associate editor of "Christianity Today." He was chairman of the style committee for the "Holy Bible, New International Version," and Editor of the "New Scofield Reference Bible." At his death, he was general editor of the "Expositor's Bible Commentary."
