Description

About Audio Express Recording Services

Audio Express began in 1985 in Annapolis, with funds provided by the vice president of Decca Records (a relative of the owner). The emphasis at the studio in the beginning was music production. Every kind of sound source was covered - live recording, analog synths, digital synths, and samplers. Included in the studio's arsenal was a Moog Source, a Yamaha DX7, a Prophet VS, and a Kurzweil 250, which are still owned by the studio. A number of vocal talents in the greater DC area benefited from the studio's production services - including pop, big band, etc.

The studio moved to Silver Spring in 1991 and was originally called "Coast Productions." The name was changed when it was learned "East Coast Productions" was right up the road in Wheaton. The studio was located at 8209 Fenton Street (that address is retained in the phone number). This location proved too noisy, so the studio was moved to the current location on Silver Spring Ave. (right around the corner) in 1998. At the new location the studio had a major overhaul including painting, sound proofing, adding an observation window, and new construction in the control room. New equipment that was purchased includes 24 track recording software and decks, Neumann microphones, and several new mixing boards for studio and on location sessions.

The owner, Bill Walker, is an accomplished pianist who regularly plays both classical and popular music in the Washington metropolitan area. He has degrees in music from Ithaca College and Peabody Conservatory. Having "musicians" ears is a huge advantage, along with a professional staff, when it comes to making sure projects meet the highest standards.
