Description
baabaaZuzu was formed in 1994 in our Leland, Michigan home. Kevin shrunk two of my sweaters and, rather than throw them out, I made jackets for my two daughters out of them. Soon after, friends started asking me for the jackets, bells rang and I started baabaaZuzu. The name comes from the source of our wool and my nickname "Zuzu".
We started in our living room and before too long, baabaaZuzu had taken over our basement. So, to reclaim our storage space (not to mention our sanity!), we moved to a store in the village of Lake Leelanau.
While we started out with children's clothing, I wondered why kids get to have all the fun stuff to wear. No reason that I could think of so we started making jackets & vests. People liked them (and Northern Michigan winters get cold), so we added scarves, hats and mittens. We hate to waste good wool, so when Kevin hit upon the idea of using the left-over wool to make Christmas stockings I said "Sure, why not!". It turned out to be a great idea and we sell a lot of them.
