- The Baccalieu Trail Heritage Corporation (BTHC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and protecting the heritage of the Baccalieu Trail Region. In addition to our ongoing program of archaeological survey, excavation and interpretation, the Corporation has been involved in a wide range of heritage related projects since it was established in 1993. The Corporation’s Heritage Discovery Team was instrumental in the formation of the Baccalieu Trail Heritage Alliance, the Fisheries Heritage Steering Committee and a number of community based heritage groups in the region. One of the Corporation’s ongoing projects is the development of the Crout’s Way Hiking Trail as an historic link between Conception and Trinity Bays. The BTHC has also worked with the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Foundation to have a number of important heritage structures in the region assigned Provincial Heritage Status including the George House in Dildo, the SUF Lodge in Heart’s Content and the Grate’s Cove Rock Walls. In 2000 the Corporation conducted an Architectural Inventory of all the building in the Baccalieu Trail Region constructed before 1920. With funding provided by Industries Canada, this inventory along with time lines for many of the communities in the region was developed into a web site that went on line in 2002.
