- Barnabas, whose given name was Joseph, was a Levite from Cyprus. He is first introduced in Scripture in Acts 4:36 when he sold a field he owned and brought the money to put at the apostles’ feet. Because of such consistent acts of encouragement throughout his lifetime, the apostles called him Barnabas, “Son of Encouragement”. Barnabas’ actions demonstrate the dynamic impact of Encouragement.
