My academic background is biology and behavioral science Namely basic Ecology, Evolution and Molecular biology as well as more exhaustive Social Psychology and Sociology. I've also added assorted courses in Natural Geography, Marine Biology, Evolutionary Psychology and now lately Social Anthropology and Political Science to a growing list of academic merits. I find the apparent dichotomy of natural and social science to be quite rewarding.
Did you notice I don't particularly like the United States of America? The U.S. effectively dominates the world via military and cultural means. It would be a mistake not to see that and in turn fail to care. As virtual and unwitting citizens of Empire we need to care.
I really don't like sports ... and it's not just a question of disinterest. I believe their influence is detrimental. One of the purposes of the rise of organized athletics is to control and distract the public mind. Essentially prevent the populace from getting involved in anything even remotely important and threaten the powers that be. This becomes even more relevant when you consider the role of sporting events in the construction of nationalism. And for that matter the espousing of the corporate sphere, such as sponsorship and the violation of civil liberties that invariably follows (see Olympic Games).
