The Bayer UK/Ireland Region is part of the global concern Bayer AG, based in Leverkusen, Germany, with 93,000 employees worldwide and a yearly turnover of 30 billion Euro's across its three main business areas - HealthCare, MaterialScience and CropScience.
In Europe, where 40% of the company's turnover resides, the UK/Ireland region is placed fourth, with almost £1billion in sales, 2,500 employees, 10% of Bayer's shareholders and 16 operating companies, whose activities mirror Bayer's operations globally.
Bayer has been trading in the UK/Ireland region since Friedrich Bayer first sold his dyestuffs here in 1871. Early business was handled through the offices of engineering company JM Steel, then through Bayer's own operations, based in Manchester, then Surrey and, latterly, in Newbury, Berkshire.
