Business Education Council of Niagara - Innovation is our Motivation
edit Description
The Business Education Council of Niagara, also known as the BEC, has a long history of service to the community of Niagara. Formed in 1987 as the Niagara Peninsula Industry Education Council (NPIEC), we are a non-profit corporation with a mandate to promote active communication between business and educators. In those early days, programs such as "Adopt-A-School" and "Choices" sought out opportunities for business to work with area secondary school students in order to enhance their employability skills.
The Council itself was created through the efforts of the four school boards that existed in Niagara at that time, namely the Lincoln County Board of Education, Niagara South Board of Education, Welland County Roman Catholic Separate School Board and the Lincoln County Separate School Board.
The name of the corporation was officially changed to the Business Education Council of Niagara in 1997 to properly reflect an expanded mandate for the Council. In addition to continuing our traditional relationship with Niagara's school systems, we now provide employment support services for Niagara's unemployed and operate the Community Network Internet System for Niagara.
