- Behold is a prototype image search engine for over 1 million images from university websites around the world. It is different from larger image search engines such as Google and Yahoo because it uses statistical image content analysis when performing search. As a result, the user gains two new ways of searching: through querying with a limited number of visual keywords that the system can already recognise, and through content-based image browsing. These methods are useful for accessing images on the web that lack meaningful surrounding text (on which standard search engines solely rely).
