Title

Bender Photographic, Inc. View Camera Kits

Description

The camera is built, primarily, by gluing and clamping pieces of pre-cut, kiln dried cherry together. As it takes some time for the glue to dry, this is where much of the time involved in building the kit resides. The more C-Clamps you have (or can borrow for a few weeks from friends) the faster the construction can go because you can glue more pairs of pieces together. Average construction time for most people is about 25-30 hours (or evenings and weekends for a few weeks).

You will be sanding most pieces before you glue them, and some assemblies need sanding after gluing. The parts are not rough and require only some sanding to fit, and some to suit your own desires regarding the finish of the camera. We recommend that you glue several different grits of sandpaper onto several flat boards (particle board works well) to use as sanding surfaces. Sand the parts by rubbing them on the sanding surface, rather than by rubbing the sandpaper over ther part. This helps avoid sanding ripples or grooves into your parts and keeps them square.

All corners have a solid brass screw inserted to add strength at the corner joints. These joints are a laid-up lap joint created by joining previously glued pairs of parts. Dovetail joints are not used because they would be too difficult for most people to build and because the lap joints, with screws, are stronger than the wood itself.
