- The idea for Benevento Biscotti came when Mary Ann Baviello (owner and baker) presented her dear friend Susan with a platter of biscotti as a gift. While munching on biscotti, drinking coffee, and complaining about their jobs, Susan exclaimed, "Mary Ann, these biscotti are so delicious, did you ever think about selling them? The market for tasty biscotti that will not break your tooth enamel is wide open!" The thought had crossed and re-crossed Mary Ann's mind, but she was unsure about making the plunge from the corporate world into the world of small business ownership.
