Laurie Spray grew up in Southern California and devoted much of her early years to mastering and teaching concert flute. She played the concert flute professionally in the Santa Monica Symphony when she was a teenager. After moving to San Francisco in 1968, Laurie began to take up pottery as a hobby but soon found that it was her calling. She studied pottery in Walnut Creek Civic Arts Center and slowly but surely evolved it from a hobby into a business through experimentation, self-teaching and experience. Laurie has been producing and selling beautiful hand crafted pottery for 30 years, initially from her garage before starting up a 15,ooo sq ft studio in Pleasant Hill. With the encouragement from her husband, Laurie has returned to working in a home studio where she has also built a glass studio. In the stained glass studio she makes custom stained glass windows and doors, fused glass jewelry, torched glass beads, and fused and slumped glass art.
Laurie's art is well known throughout California and the Western United States for its variety, functionality and beauty. She has created a thriving business by focusing her energy and talent on quality and customer service. Her unique gift for creating both functional stoneware and artistic objects that sparkle with vibrant color and interesting shapes make her work widely sought. Every year she comes out with new designs and shapes. All of Laurie's pottery cookware and dinnerware are microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. They are also lead free.
