About Us

Betawatcher.com was founded in September of 2000 by 2 friends who were both big MMORPG fans at the time that the post-EQ wave of MMORPG’s was getting ready to kick off. We really wanted to beta test them all; not only see which one seemed like it would be the “Next Everquest”, but also to help shape the game by testing it and giving our suggestions.

In our search for MMORPG’s and to find out which ones were having a beta test and which weren’t we noticed a complete lack of sites tracking these games and their beta testing phases. I missed 2 beta signups because I didn’t know they were occurring. It was at this moment I decided to start betawatcher.com.

Since then the site has gone through many different re-designs and many different volunteer editors. The site is entirely non-profit, not because we wouldn’t like to make money, but because we don’t feel people should have to pay for this information. We try to get advertising to help cover bandwidth costs, but for the most part we pay for the site out of pocket each month.
