In August 2002 Pastor Brian and a handful of elders attended an introductory seminar on the ReFocusing process at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, sponsored by the Synod of the Heartland. In alignment with the RCA’s Ten-Year Goal , ReFocusing was introduced as a tool for church revitalization. We learned that over 1000 leaders/local churches had participated in ReFocusing, consisting of churches from 18 different denominations in the U.S. and Canada, in large and small cities, and in a variety of contexts. We heard personal stories of churches in our own region who had benefited from the ReFocusing process.
The ReFocusing Leadership Team is pleased with how this whole process of ReFocusing went. From the very beginning, our goal was to intentionally carve out time and space where we, as a community of faith, could listen to God and discern where He is leading us in the future. We are grateful to the Bethel Consistory and members of the congregation for their support and willingness to engage in a discernment process like ReFocusing. We believe it was a healthy process and will prove very valuable for the future direction of Bethel Church. To God be the glory!
