We are visiting the Digital Illusions main office in Gothenburg. The sun shines brightly on the minority of the staff who haven't drawn their blinds. Andreas Axelsson and Marcus Nyström, two of the original founders, act as our hosts and have prepared for this interview by filling the conference room with press clippings and game boxes. Andreas wipes the dust from the Pinball Dreams box. It was Pinball Dreams that started it all. The story of how the Swedish guys conquered the computer game scene has been told repeatedly in business magazines as well as on the entertainment pages. Thus leading to a virtual subculture of computer freaks with a passion for playing computerised pinball.
In the summer of 1988, Fredrik and the other boys got the idea of Pinball Dreams out at his parents´ cottage. After winning most demo parties, the demo group "The Silents" felt safe on their throne and now wanted to try something else.We were just a bunch of guys hacking and partying away out there in the wilds. Mikael, a Danish friend of ours, had drawn a pinball course and so we talked about making a game out of it, Andreas says.
