- The British Institute at Ankara (BIAA) was founded in 1947, with formal recognition by the Turkish authorities on 22 November 1947. The BIAA was incorporated in 1950, followed by inclusion within the cultural agreement of 12 March 1956 between the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom. The first issue of the BIAA journal, Anatolian Studies, appeared in 1951.
