- Born in 1970 of a mountaineering family, Roland has been actively climbing for over 15 years and knows just about every climbing venue in the northern part of South Africa. Having chaired the Wits University Mountain Club and the Mountain Club of South Africa Johannesburg section, and now heading up the MCSA nationally, he is well acquainted with organizational roles. Working as a IT consultant in Germany and Switzerland for two years allowed him to sample climbing and skiing in the Alps and make affordable an expedition to Western China where some first ascents were made. Fluent in German. Has MDT qualifications and may one day get THETA qualification, should they sort themselves out..
