Bird Watcher Supply Company began in 1984 as For The Birds. Richard and Nancy Cole had always been interested in nature and became more focused on wild birds after getting a bird feeder for a gift. They were soon mixing their own bird seed since the birds did not seem to like the grocery store mixes they were using.

It was not long before friends and neighbors were asking Richard and Nancy for their great bird seed and for their opinions on the best birding products to use. A cottage business was born. A spare bedroom became the office, warehouse and seed packaging facility. Their backyard became the testing lab where they gained much of their knowledge of wild birds and birding products.
