In 1968, Dr. John W. Fiore determined that his low back disc case patients needed increased lumbar support in their car on their way home from his office.
With an electric knife and some foam rubber he carved out a dozen specially designed cushions. He theorized that not only could circumferential support reduce bulging disc pressures while sitting but that if the surface of the cushion is contoured to follow the natural lines of the human body the ultimate in comfort and support could be achieved. The result was the original low back support cushion from the most recognized name in physical therapy companies -- "Back-Huggar."®
These cushions, intended as loaners, were liked so much that his patients didn't want to return them -- they wanted to buy them. Soon custom poured-foam cavities were made to produce a quality one-piece molded "Back-Huggar."
