- Donald Dustin (frustrated) : I hope you are sincere about trying to improve. This is my second Raptor...both have been disastrous disappointments. Both Trikes had the same drive train failure. I found that the gearbox was mounted askew on the rear axle, causing the closest wheel bearing to fail. The problem also caused the dc motor to overheat from the extra friction generated from the misaligned gearbox. The result was loud shrieking metallic sounds that were embarrassingly cruel to witness. The first trike was replaced at no cost, but came with the same inherent problem. I had this repaired at a local bicycle shop for $100. On the way home from the cycle shop, the hydraulic front disk brake failed (no pressure left in the handle grip). I had this repaired for $50. There are many more smaller failures. The bell exploded into pieces when pushed to ring. The safety hand brake plunger popped into the air & scattered the parts everywhere. I managed to recover & reassemble them. I haven't touched it since. The ignition switch on both trikes had the same unusual function of working when it felt like it should. Operation was intermittent hit or miss. I was told by bicycle mechanics that the braking system was never designed to safely control the 300 LB weight of the machine plus the rider. They were made for a bicycle...period. The rear brake has very little control. It reminds me of the old "coaster brake" on my childhood bicycle. Each time I head downhill, I do so with real trepidation & anxiety for what may happen at the bottom.I have not been able to ride either trike very much because of the waiting downtime that has kept the machine out of commission. Now that it is together again, I don't feel much pleasure from riding it. I am very sorry that I ever spent $3,500 for such a miserable failure of design. I could have bought three Chinese gasoline scooters & still had cash in my pocket. Buying this Raptor is one of my most critical failures of good judgment. I live in NH, so there was no possibility of trying before buying. I really believe this is a giant ripp-off & I would never recommend a Raptor to anyone. Stay away...be fore warned!. .
