West Bend’s Purchase of Developer’s Rights (PDR) is DEAD. The county made the right choice. The deal was lame, and there was absolutely NO benefit for taxpayers. Great job, Washington County board!
This year’s list of Wisconsin schools not meeting standards under the federal No Child Left Behind law is longer and more geographically diverse than in previous years, with 92 schools in districts from Milwaukee to Antigo and Hayward making the list.
But this isn’t a bad thing. The purpose of NCLB is to identify and fix bad schools so that kids can be successful. Now that we have identified the schools that aren’t doing well, I hope that the districts take a good hard look at them. If they need more money, then get them more money. If it’s bad leadership, then replace the leaders. If it’s bad teachers, then fire them. Whatever it is, let’s hope that they identify it quickly and act.
