Bos Sod Farms started growing sod in 1981 for the Southern Alberta market and has since branched out into the Lower Mainland of B.C. In the last several years the Abbotsford farm has been exclusively growing quality specialty sod for the golf course industry, with a special focus on sod products for greens. The service area includes the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada.
The majority of our sod products are grown on 3mm washed sand, compatible with USGA root zone mixes. Currently the combined farms have about 300 acres of sod under cultivation including 25 acres of greens sod; bentgrass varieties and Native Poa Annua. Our bentgrass fields are fumigated to eliminate unwanted grasses and other pests. Great care is taken to produce a top quality product for the discerning end user. We continually review and improve growing procedures, equipment developments, input products, cultural practices, and keep striving to raise the quality bar.
Customers that do long term renovation planning can order their sod 1 year in advance. This allows us to custom tailor sod products to suit the customer's needs and grow "Just in time sod inventory" thereby ensuring sod availability and competitive prices. Sodding vs. seeding can save time and money. On new construction, with sodding the owner is better able to schedule opening dates and allow for pre-marketing their golf course product. By reducing the construction time the golf course can become a "turn-key" facility.
