L-3 Brashear

Description

L-3 Communications Brashear traces its beginnings back more than 110 years to two founding instrument companies: The John Brashear Company established in 1881 and the Goerz Optical Company in 1905. The descendant companies of these two pioneers were purchased in 1974 by the Swiss corporation, Contraves A.G. and united to form the Contraves Goerz Corporation. The name was later changed to Contraves Inc.

Brashear LP was formed in 1997 when the Fire Control Systems and Surveillance divisions of Contraves Inc. were acquired by William E. Conway, Jr., a founding partner of The Carlyle Group. In 2004 L-3 Communication Corporation purchased Brashear LP and changed the name to L-3 Communications Brashear.

Located near Pittsburgh, PA, L-3 Brashear operates state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities with the most sophisticated optics capabilities in the world. Our highly skilled technical staff includes more than 170 engineers, scientists and support personnel with specialized experience in electro-optical design and development.
