- While on a trip that had only two purposes, visiting my daughter and attending a woodcarvers' convention, I came in contact with carved candles. We visited a candle shop where an individual was layering waxes and carving beautiful candles. I said to myself, "I can do that"; after all I had just come from a woodcarvers' convention. I came home and could not get the carved candles out of my head. I started to do some research and began my quest to make some candles. First thing I needed was equipment. My dad always said, “why buy it when you can make it.” I guess it’s right when they say you become your dad as you become older. I became obsessed with making the equipment needed to make carved candles. It took well over a year from the time I started until the first candle. The first candle was “pitiful” and is sitting on a shelf to remind me where I started from. Many hours have been spent in developing a beautiful unity candle that I can be proud of.
