Description

For over 25years doctors placed incisions in the cornea to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. In the early 1980s, they began looking at lasers to improve the precision and predictability of altering the shape of the cornea. Now, in its second decade of use, the Excimer laser has added a tremendous amount of precision, control and safety to the surgical correction of vision errors. Using this remarkable technology, the cornea is reshaped to conform to your glasses or contact lens prescription, thereby reducing or even eliminating dependence on corrective lenses for over a million people a year.

Your doctor uses theLADARVision‚ Excimer Laser System, the only patented laser radar eye tracker, the LADARTracker™, with a unique small spot corneal shaping beam. Precision shaping of the cornea depends upon accurate placement of the laser beam. Even when you are unaware, your eyes are constantly making fine movements, many of which are beyond your control. LADARTracker™ uses laser and radar technology developed for NASA to track the position of your eye 4,000 times per second, thereby maintaining accurate placement of the beam. The LADARVision‚ cool, small spot laser beam (less than 1 millimeter in diameter) allows micron size reshaping of the cornea, offering precision treatment to a broad range of patients including almost everyone who is nearsighted, nearsighted with astigmatism, farsighted, farsighted with astigmatism, and those with both regular and mixed astigmatism.

After your eye has been completely numbed using "eye drop’ anesthesia, an eyelid holder will be placed between your eyelids to prevent you from blinking.
